Jabran Ali

Jabran Ali is a professional software developer living in London He holds a degree in Distributed Systems and specialising in large scale, enterprise system primarily for financial services clients.

He is a Sunni Muslim of Pakistani origin with a strong interest in Islam and Secularism, the renegotiation of Sharia based on the same principles that led to its evolution in the first place, and also comparative religion.

He was an early member of USoB and has often argued that secularism is in fact necessary for Muslims in order to live by the core principle of Islam that you have to follow a religion out of your own free choice and conviction without any coercion, which isn't necessarily true in countries where Islam is the official state religion.

Jane McCallion

Jane McCallion is a ‎27 year-old trainee journalist.

Jane joined United Shades of Britain in early 2010 and became an admin in Spring that year. Having seen the tensions, blind fear and irrational hatred that was increasingly directed towards the Muslim community after 9/11 and 7/7, she found in USoB a culture that reflected her own ideals of mutual respect and co-operation between communities.

Naaz Nabi-Alvis

Nazia works in the Education sector as a Learning Support Assistant and is a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant. Even though Nazia is from a Muslim family and background, she did not always believe and practice Islam. However at the age of 24 Nazia went back to Islam and became a practising Muslim woman.

Nazia joined USoB back when it was ‘Muslims (and Non-Muslims) Against the Islam 4 UK march in Wootten Bassett’ to show her support against the inappropriate march that was planned. As someone who is keen to educate people Nazia saw USoB as an ideal platform to help eradicate myths and misconceptions about Islam and Muslims. Since becoming an Admin of USoB, believing in the aims and the ethos of the group, she thoroughly enjoys being a spokesperson for USoB.

Kate Robey

Kate Robey is a professional musician living in Bath, Somerset. She was one of the first admins on USoB, and is agnostic.

She joined USoB after seeing a rise in racism and hatred in this country and felt strongly that a place for people from all backgrounds/religions/ethnicities was needed so they could find out more from each other, discover their simillarites, as well as discuss their differences with hopes of easing tensions.

Gregg Smith

Gregg is Northern and study History with the Open University. When not at work He's either playing on the Xbox, reading or writing on his blog.

"Before studying History I studies science concentrating on physics ad astronomy, achieving a Certificate in Natural sciences in July 2011. Before that I spent three years at Sunderland University learning "American Studies," -now renamed History and Politics just AFTER I got my certificate - and selling overpriced items to people for a high street store. However both of these ended in a cloud, after one two many arguments with his manager and his anger at a completely useless faculty. When not writing angry articles/letters to government officials I can be found outside in the dark with my telescope whistling European pop/rock songs rather loudly annoying local wildlife. Or in the Library/pub."

His reasons for joining USoB were two-fold, one was being banned from the original march group for defending a serving soldier against "racist bile" and the other was quote "boredom of can this X get more fans than Y groups."

Aoife Tobin

Aoife (ee-fah) Tobin is an ex-Catholic atheist, from a mixed English/Irish family.

She is involved in youth information, advice and guidance work, community activities, and sports organising. Some of her main interests lie in theories of racialisation, the ‘new racisms’, migration, and identity. She is active and concerned about disability rights, and cuts to the welfare state. She’s a pacifist and well on her way to being a crazy-cat-lady. She enjoys creative writing, good food, sunny days and spending time with friends.

She joined USoB because she thought it was great to see the obvious display of the benefits of multiculturalism taking place, with people from all sorts of backgrounds uniting against bigotry and discrimination, as well as getting along as people sharing recipes and chatting about films and books. Groups that seek to divide Britain will always be weakened by clear examples of people just enjoying what they have in common regardless of ethnicity, age, religion, gender, disability, sexuality, social class, nationality or culture.
